I have to admit, I prefer the “Outback” version of wagons for daily driving. Unless it is a performance model, where the lowered ride height is actually essential to handling, I prefer this position between car and crossover.
Is there a name for this? There is an honest body difference between CUV and Hatch. But if Ferrari lifted the FF/Lusso (SQUEEE) what would it be called?
I’m leaning towards calling them the “XC” (Cross Country) versions. Like a Mazda CX3 is a Hatchback-XC (HXC). Lifted sedan (SXC), lifted Coupe (CXC), lifted 4dr Coupe (4D-CXC), lifted McLaren P1 (WTF-XC). Another new segment is here!

Yeah, I guess XC works best in these cases. However do not tell BMW about all the niches you just thought-up, because they will built a M650xd Gran Cross Coupe Country, and will make themselves look ridiculous, although I kinda do like that idea.

I do agree, this is a great idea who wants a little bit of a lifted car, but doesn’t want a full-on SUV/really still wants to hold on to the wagon-style. I have driven a newer model All Road (2014) and I really didnt feel all that much difference in handling with everyday driving. In fact, with all the speedbumps around, its even easier to drive. Plus, people who buy the XC’s (see, we’re already using it!!) dont buy them for performance driving....

I think it would really help the 3-series GT.

Yeah, a fast, hatch which can also do a bit of offroading would be awesome, though I don’t think it would be a sales succes.

I’m still wondering why people haven’t made more ‘Baja sports cars’.
Take 1x Porsche Cayman
Install lifted suspension, big open wheelarches and big knobbly tyres
Profit

I like the variability of some cars but I don’t think a single vehicle could do all of the tasks as one feature would surely compromise another .
Take the Skoda Octavia,
Regular.
Sport, vRS.
‘Crossover’, Scout.
One will always have a bias over another.
Till then I’ll take a Bowler Nemesis EXR S.
Fast on road, fast off road, daily driver, etc...

I think the crossover already splits that definition. Not much room between car, and slightly-higher car IMO.

Your ‘lifted Macca P1' idea isn’t new.
